Egress Restaurant was created in 1874 in a 4-Story Mansard Building that was shut down for Code Violations by Vermont Labor and Industry. Compost rebuilt the building from the ground up and designed an urban live / work situation for artists/writers, living upstairs and working downstairs in the egress restaurant. This economic architecture can be duplicated in rural downtown areas across the world. Section 8 development on Main Street kills Main Street. But artists/ writers and entreprenuers living and working on Main Street creates new economies with their creations.
